A student union affiliated to the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist on Monday imposed an educational strike across the nation, affecting millions of students.Most of the schools, colleges and academic institutions in major cities of the nation could not carry out teaching learning activities due to the strike.
The union has decided to impose the strike against high fees charged by private institutions. Likewise, it demanded discount to students in facilities of health, transportation and entertainment sectors.
Meanwhile, the union vandalised at least three institutions of Kathmandu Valley accusing them of breaching the call of strike.The umbrella organisations of the institutional schools, PABSON and N-PABSON directed the schools affiliated to them not to open the schools and run school buses on Monday.
Millions of students studying in about 8000 institutional schools across the country have been affected due to the forced closure of the schools. School owners have decided to close the schools as per the call of student union for the safety of the students and the school. Some of the schools have not even used buses for higher secondary students fearing attacks from the Maoist students.
