Nepal Student Union to shift its focus to quality education

bKathmandu, August 20 newly elected office- bearers of Nepali Congress- aligned Nepal Student Union have vowed to shift their focus to educational issues from political ones.

Speaking at a programme organised in Kathmandu today, they made it clear they would raise the voice for quality education.

On the occasion, NSU President Nain Singh Mahar unveiled his two- year action plan and said, “ The new working committee will press the government to make health and education free in the country.” He also informed that NSU was in favor of an educational policy that would help maintain ethnic, regional and religious tolerance in the “ Our emphasis will be on laying the foundation of value- based practical education in the country,” Mahar added.

Urmila Thapaliya, NSU vice- president from the women’s category, said NSU would make efforts to reduce the huge gap between government and private schools in terms of quality education.

Secretary general Saroj Kumar Thapa expressed commitment to take initiative for the implementation of the Education Act ( eighth amendment) and take disciplinary action against student leaders who act in contravention of the NSU statute. He also said that NSU would press the Tribhuvan University to hold free students’ union polls as soon as possible.
