Pyuthan/ Hetauda, July 26 At least 31 people were killed and hundreds of families were displaced in floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall across the country in the past two days.
In Pyuthan, 14 persons were killed and 16 went missing, as floods and landslides wreaked havoc in the district. At least 200 families were displaced due to landslides in the district. Nine bodies were recovered from different VDCs of the district. DSP Ranjit Singh Rathaur said five bodies were fished out from the swollen Jhimruk Khola.
Kali Pariyar, 25, and Kiran Thapa, 11, were buried to death when Basnat KC’s house caved in at Bahane of Lung VDC. Local Shova Rijal went missing after her house collapsed. A male in his late forties was washed away by the local stream near the under- construction building of Pyuthan Municipality at Bijuwar. A minor girl, two females and a child were swept away by Jhimruk Khola. They were yet to be identified.
Supari Malla, 45, and his son, Mukesh, were killed when his house collapsed due to landslide at Puja VDC. Dowanti BK and a boy were killed when BK’s house was hit by landslide at Sutlabang of Khabang. Three members of a family were buried to death after landslide struck their house at Arkha VDC. As many as 19 families were displaced at Khabang.
As many as 15 persons went missing in Wards No 3 and 4 of Fopli VDC after landslide hit their houses. Eight families of Tunikharna of Majhkot VDC were displaced due to landslide above the village. The risk of landslide has displaced 45 households in Gatinama of Fopli VDC. Five people were killed in landslides in Gulmi this morning. Bhim Bahadur Darji’s wife Tulashi, 49, daughter- inlaw Asmita and sister Kalika, 65, were killed after their house collapsed due to landslide at Maldi of Hastichaur VDC in Gulmi. Gopal Rana’s son Sujan, 8, and daughter Simana died after his house caved in due to landslide at Gulmi’s Bishukharka.
Three of a family were killed when their house was buried in landslide at Solubhanjyang of Bhimphedi VDC, Makawanpur, this morning. The deceased have been identified as Tek Bahadur Rumba, 25, Parbati Rumba, 23, and Bikash Rumba, 5.
Four people lost their lives in landslides in Palpa last night. Tam Bahadur Kanauje, his wife Khagisara and daughter Yasodhara died when landslide buried their house at Mansowadmar of Gothadi VDC. In Jhumsa of Dovan VDC, Asmita BK, 14, died after landslide buried her house. Sharada Gharti, 17, was killed when her house collapsed at Thanda of Arghakhanchi. Five persons were killed after they were swept away by swollen streams in Jhapa. One person has gone missing.
Jhapa DSP Hari Prasad Sharma said Babulal Mandi, an Indian national, went missing after he was swept away by the swollen Maikhola. As many as 2,283 flood- and landslide- hit people have been rescued from Jhapa, while 669 houses in the district have been inundated.
